Transformation

FFfPP-2-19-16

The Earth spins on it’s axis as it revolves around the sun. That great fiery ball careens in a giant loop around the galaxy, which in turn passes through infinite empty space in the greatest cosmic dance ever.

All that is or will ever be is in motion, changing, evolving. Nothing remains at rest.

Transformation seems to be the natural order of the universe, yet I still cling to the stability of the routine. I yearn to let go and be more, but my chrysalis of doubt holds me in perpetual bondage. I know what I want to become, I see it in my minds eye. I feel it. My destiny calls.

Returning the book of wisdom to the bedside table, I shut my eyes. I imagine a world where my fear does not exist and I am free to simply be. Unshackled from my chains, my spirit soars. I vow to never return to my dark and empty life.

As I drift off to sleep, my last thoughts are of how I will quit my job tomorrow and take the first steps on my journey to becoming the writer I know I can be. Tomorrow… my life truly begins.

[This is my second entry into the Flash Fiction Challenge for Flash Fiction for the Purposeful Practitioner by Roger Shipp. Write a story based on a photo prompt and introductory sentence in 200 words or less.

This was the first story that came to me from the photo prompt and while it did not utilize the first sentence prompt that is included, I wanted to share it anyway. It’s a bit of a stylistic break from my usual fare, but it was interesting to write. I hope you enjoy it.]

Loved this story. Going from the cosmos and sun, to the writer in bed. Perhaps, making him feel small in comparison. He says his life begins tomorrow when he becomes the writer he wants to be. But I think he has been working on writing a long time and I think tomorrow came along time ago. Success doesn’t come overnight, all people in their line of work know the day they became what they wanted encompassed so much hard work to get to that point. Good luck but I think you are already that writer 🙂

I understand a bit where you are at. I saw your post the other day about wanting to get your work published. I’m slowly wading into that myself for the first time. I have started with doing some guest blogs on a few blogs. Now, I and am trying to write some longer pieces I can submit to places that award prize money etc. Will let you know if I find good places to submit to 🙂 Goodluck!

    1. Thank you. I suspect many of us who got this crazy idea into our heads that we can write may share some of these feelings. I suppose it is really our journey, not just that of one person. May we all reach our goals and enjoy the ride.

  2. As I read this, I felt that it was talking about you, and your want to become a published and paid writer. This story is wonderful and I feel you will become that published writer you want to be! I loved how this story spoke about the changes in the cosmos and became about changes in the life of the writer. Wonderful!

    1. Thank you. Yes, it described me and the fear of letting go to pursue a dream. I suppose it’s a universal idea, regardless of what each person’s dream may be. Change can be hard, in whatever form it takes. Marriage, Divorce, Death, Birth or just leaving an old life behind and starting anew. But that seems to be how life works. I’m glad you enjoyed it. 🙂

Speak and Be Heard! (or write and be seen, actually)
