The Test

A piece of plastic changed her life, or at least, it broke the news that her life was about to change in a major way. 16-year-old Cara paced back and forth barefoot on the cold tiles of her bathroom floor wearing panties and a T-shirt. She looked at the directions on the back of the box again. Seconds ticked by slowly, as time nearly stood still. She picked up the plastic stick, unable to wait any longer. There it was, a pink “plus” symbol peeking through the hole at the end. A tear streamed down her soft cheek.

[This was something I wrote a while back as I practiced to squeeze in a story in under 100 words. Not my best work, but I thought it should see the light of day.]
